Online culture

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

The whole reason I wanted to create a story based on online culture is because a lot of people think its a negative thing. A lot of people believe that it can be dangerous that teenagers spend too much time online. Even I spend a lot of my time online on things such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagra but I wouldn’t say this has affected me in the real world. People like to think that because we spend so much time online that we believe that this is what it is like in the real world.

speaking for myself I feel it’s easier to communicate online than in real life just because of suffering from anxiety can affect me when I’m in group situations. However, online nobody can see me which I can deal with as I can’t stand a lot of people looking at me. I understand how to act in the real world but people are worried that they won’t know how to act.

For example, a blog I was reading by Geneva Fortson and she explains that people need to stop living their life online because it stopping them having ‘suitable real life human interactions’ she believes that people can just check out of their real life and live online. However, I disagrees as a lot people find friends which they might find hard to make in the real world as it can be a lot more intimidating for some people. She also says that ‘we use social media to feel like the person we wished we were and have a life we wished to have’ I think this is quite a big statement as a lot of people use social media to distract themselves from something in their life. Even myself I have found myself doing this when I’ve had quite a stressful day with a lot of anxiety I usually take to instagram and YouTube to distract myself from my bad day. But I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing its like a coping mechanism for me and I can guess for a lot of people too.
